Chico Saraiva’s fourth CD, “Sobre Palavras” (Borandá), is recorded in 2009. The idea appears from a different proposal: to unite Chico’s guitar arrangements, the meticulously contemporary lyrics of Maury Aguiar, with the singular way and beautiful voice of Verônica Ferriani. The CD materialized by being embraced by project Pixinguinha the same year it was recorded.
Chico started the partnership with Verônica during the shows to promote CD Trégua (2003), when he invited the still very young singer to take part in his tour.
Mauro Aguiar had participated in two compositions recorded in the previous CD “Saraivada” (2007).
In “Sobre Palavra”, Chico faces the challenge to compose guitar music from the lyrics, differently from the process taken in the previous CDs. On each track, the creativity and talent of three representatives of a generation vividly pulse searching for new unfoldings concerning their musical references. Chico explains: “It is a result that displays Mauro’s poetry, my trade mark as composer-arranger, and Verônica’s unique singing, rendering it special in each one’s artistic course.”
“Sobre Palavra” also features Chico César (“Sanfona Safenada”), Carlos Malta (“Errática”), Toninho Ferragutti (“Lua pós lua”), Marcelo Pretto (“Errática”), and Pepe Cisneiros (“Revés”).
“Sobre Palavras as the title suggests consists of compositions by Chico Saraiva who for the first time created music having the lyrics as a starting point. Partner Mauro Aguiar was commissioned to write the poems”.
