Trégua

The second CD in Chico Saraiva’s career, Trégua, was firstly released by Eldorado label in 2003, the result of the 6º Prêmio Visa de Música Popular (the 6th Visa Prize of Brazilian Popular Music ) awarded to Saraiva in that year. The CD features several female voices: Ceumar (“Trégua”), Simone Guimarães (“Incerteza”), Ná Ozzetti (“Ensaio”), Teresa Cristina (“Os olhos da manhã”), Ana Luiza (“As Horas” e “Luas dos Mares”), Luciana Alves (“Aonde Você For”) and Juçara Marçal (together with the group A Barca, in “Canto Pra Aurora”). The male star guests are Siba and Marcelo Pretto (in “Baião de Tomás”) and Ney Mesquita (“Antes de Você Aparecer”).

At that moment, Chico Saraiva takes the format of song for some of his compositions, accompanied by talented voices. Even though most of the pieces are in song-format, it would be misleading to say that the voice is the center of attention on the CD – the harmonic-melodic language of his guitar goes on impressing whoever listens to three instrumental tracks in Trégua: “Três Tardes de Lua”, the first music in the album; “Lagarteando”; and Conceição” on the last track.

The shows inserted in Projeto Pixinguinha were very important to make the CD known in Brazil. After two years presenting Trégua, and having in mind taking this new work to other audiences, Chico releases in 2005 the same CD by Biscoito Fino Recording and gains highly favorable reviews in Europe.

Trégua is a masterpiece.
Vibrations Magazine – Switzerland, 2005

“…at the age of 31 Chico Saraiva already enjoys the stature of a classic Brazilian musician…his marvelous Trégua is literally a work without precedent…a delightfully dangerous album, from a soul as big as the world.”
Les Inrockuptibles – France, 2005

Four of the fourteen tracks on Trégua have no lyrics and stress the composer’s graceful touch; we find only treasures in one of year’s great albums.
